About Me

I’m a Christian and a gamer. I think that pretty much sums me up, or does it? This page is about me so I guess I should be more descriptive than that.My family got our first computer in 1980. It was an IBM PC portable. It had a 6” amber monitor and two 5 ¼” floppy drives. No hard disk. We thought we were such hot stuff. Shortly after that my brother became involved with bulletin board systems utilizing our blazing fast 1200 baud modem. From there I was introduced to my first computer games.

My first experience with playing on a computer was at my mother’s work place. She had a word processing machine and I distinctly remember drawing ascii space ships and holding down the enter key to make them blast off. Of course I never could get them to come back down. I was 5 or 6 at the time. I have been playing computer games ever since.

My earliest gaming experiences include role-playing on local bulletin boards – running text based systems like Stonehenge and Citadel. I started serious gaming with the great classic franchises like Ultima and Sierra’s Quest games (King’s Quest, Space Quest etc) which will always hold a special place in my heart.

Other early franchises I’ve played are Wing Commander, Civilization and SimCity. Most of which I still have. Of course there are many other games in my collection and many more still I regret never having played such as Final Fantasy (hey don’t look at me like that! I’ve only got so much time you know!).

PC. Well I’m sorry but I’ve never been able to afford anything else after all the upgrading and growing up poor. I am hoping to remedy this situation in the near future.

My aspiration in life, and I believe my calling as a Christian as my ministry is game design. I’ve always had a sense that this is what God wants me to do. The road has been long and not at all a pace to my liking, but I have faith that God has a plan and His timing is a lot better than mine. To that end I have begun developing several game designs intended to appeal to the young adult and adult set that also hold true to Christian values and biblical values. Eventually I see myself at the head of a Christian team producing games for the masses. Not just the church but for the secular audience. For we are to go forth and make disciples of all nations! I do not believe God wants Christians to make games only for Christians when it has the potential to be a world wide ministry.

Why should my opinion matter? Aside from my years of gaming experience I am currently studying for a Bachelors Degree in Game Art and Design. I have 3 or 4 terms to go until I graduate.

In addition to gaming I occasionally perform at various shows and renascence fairs with the Seattle Knights (www.seattleknights.com). Currently I’m only a ground pounder though I look forward to expanding my experience into the arena of jousting. Performing in live action guilds is great fun and learning stage combat with real weapons gives an interesting perspective on melee combat in games. On top of that I’ve also taught Western and English horsemanship for a few years at a local Christian camp.
